Teleworking
Working from home can be a bit of a transition. Here are some recommendations to
make things more workable.
Resetting Your Password while Teleworking
Equipment and Software - Basic Setup Includes:
- Computer
- Monitor
- Keyboard
- Mouse
- Webcam w/microphone
- Headphones or speakers
- Laptop – Most laptops have built-in speakers, camera, and microphone (the following
items are recommended for better productivity)
- Keyboard
- Mouse

Helpful Links:
Equipment Sources:
- Computers/Monitors – We don’t have the resources to provide everyone with computers and monitors to take
home. We ask that you use your equipment if you have it. Occasionally, when there
is a need for accommodation, we can provide certain items. Requests should be approved
by your director or dean. Please contact the helpdesk for assistance.
- Webcams/Headphones – We carry some limited stock on these items. These items will be low cost, but adequate
to perform for this purpose. Please contact the helpdesk for assistance.
- Document Cameras – We have a low-cost, portable document camera available on the approval of your director
or dean. Please contact the helpdesk for assistance.
- Document Scanners – We do not stock these items. These will be special order. Requests should be approved
by your director or dean. Please contact the helpdesk for assistance.
- Printers – We do not stock these items and discourage their purchase. These will be special order
and special approval. Requests should be made by your director or dean. Please contact
the helpdesk for assistance.
- Keyboards and Mics – We have stock available. Please contact the helpdesk for assistance.
- Speakers – We have limited stock available. Please contact the helpdesk for assistance.
IT Services:
- Needs, Issues, Questions - The helpdesk is the first point of contact for every IT need. When you email helpdesk@wvc.edu, a ticket is automatically created. This saves us a substantial amount of time and
allows us to spend that time on resolutions.
- Purchases - All company purchases of equipment and software should be purchased through the
IT helpdesk. We track all purchases for state reporting. If you need anything, email
the helpdesk. We have many things in stock and are rapidly ordering anything we can
find to maintain our stock levels. We also evaluate purchases for network viability
and security.
- Library Equipment - We ask that staff refrain from checking out library equipment. We need this equipment
for students. Staff should always reach out to IT for equipment resources. Email
the helpdesk and we will work with you to solve your needs.
- Communication - We want to make certain that all communications are answered quickly and by the
correct resources in IT. Many staff members in IT are receiving emails directly from
staff members. When you email someone directly, it will most likely be missed and
not answered promptly, especially with team members who are ill or on LWOP. Please
email the helpdesk and CC the resource. This allows for tracking and followup.
- Escalations - If you are unsatisfied with the resolution or the timeliness of our response, please
contact Shea Morgan or Jason Hetterle so we can work to address your concern and improve
our customer service.
Forwarding Your Mitel phone to Your Cell phone or Home Phone
- Open Mitel Connect and click on your name in the upper left corner.
- Under Primary Assignment click "external assignment number". If you do not have your
cell phone number listed, click "add new number" and add the number you want to forward
to.
- You can add multiple numbers if needed.

Everyone at WVC has access to TEAMS - a Microsoft product. Login with your network credentials, all our Microsoft products
are sync'd to our network credentials.
Use TEAMS for your meetings, rather than Zoom. TEAMS already is included in our Microsoft Licensing. We are phasing out the use of Zoom.
In the upper right corner of your TEAMS app, you will see 3 dots to indicate "more actions". Click that and you can schedule
a new meeting. Scheduling meetings in your Outlook calendar also allows you to schedule
a TEAMS meeting.
The "Chat" function in your TEAMS meeting is always saved after the meeting, and does not disappear. TEAMS functions very much like Zoom, only the controls are at the top instead of the bottom.
You'll soon get used to using it, and we encourage you to do that sooner rather than
later, as Zoom licenses will not be renewed.
Should you have any issues, please reach out. helpdesk@wvc.edu

Staff - Use your WVC email address and password.
For more information on Wi-Fi, continue reading the instructions below.
|
Where is Wireless Available?
Wi-Fi access is widely available throughout both WVC campuses. While most areas will
have excellent coverage, there may be a few areas where signal is weak.
|
How do I connect my device?
- From a Wi-Fi capable device, open the Wi-Fi control panel on your laptop or device.
- Select WVC WiFi from the list of available connections.
- Your device will connect and redirect you to a browser for authentication.
- Login with your WVC email and password.
- After login, your device will be connected to the network.
- Your device should remember the settings and automatically connect when you are on
campus.
|
Wi-Fi Limitations
Consider the following issues when using the wireless network:
- Security: Although you are protected from threats on the open Internet by the WVC firewall,
your device is still vulnerable to other WVC wireless users. Use this network at
your own risk. Protect yourself by loading current antivirus software on your device.
- Appropriate Use: The Wi-Fi Network is intended to be used for educational, class related purposes.
Please refrain from using the Wi-Fi network for entertainment and personal use.
- Use Policy: Users of the WVC wireless network (WVC Wi-Fi) are held to the WVC Computer Lab Policy,
WVC Acceptable Use Policy, and all state and federal laws regarding acceptable use
and copyright. The Code of Student Conduct applies.
- Printing: Wireless printing is not currently supported.
- Under no circumstances is it ever acceptable to physically plug your personal equipment
into the WVC Network.
|
Where do I go for help?
In the event that you are unable to access the WVC wireless network, please contact
the helpdesk.
Please Note: The helpdesk can assist you with access to the network; however, they are not responsible
for configuring your device.
|
What if I still can't log in?
Please make sure you have entered your network credentials correctly. If you are
unable to access the system using your correct username and password, please contact
the helpdesk.
|
Note: Since wireless bandwidth is shared among all users connected within a given area,
network speed may be noticeably slower when many people are using the wireless network.
