Wenatchee Valley College students in Industrial Technology courses will present the twenty-first annual Twisted Metal Mayhem event on Thursday, June 11 at 3 p.m. outside the Industrial Technology building on the Wenatchee campus. The community is invited to this free event that includes a fighting robot competition and an opportunity for community members to recycle scrap metal.

Students from the ELEC 135 Instrumentation course will provide a showcase of process control systems by sharing their Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) loops, along with poster presentations.

ELTRO 240 Hydraulic course students have programmed fighting robots that will compete against each other. The competition includes three one-minute rounds and a four-person double-elimination bracket.

This year, community members will also be able to recycle their scrap metal during Twisted Metal Mayhem on June 11. Household recyclable materials include steel or cast-iron cookware, silverware, metal gardening tools, faucets, sinks, pipes, car parts, refrigerators, washers, and dryers.

“I have found that these competitions and showcases require an excess of time and commitment from both instructor and student alike,” Industrial Technology Professor Zack Jacobson said. “They have proven to be the most memorable and concept-reenforcing exercises I assign. The depth the students will dig to ‘get the job done' is always beyond expectation. It’s blood sweat and tears, ideas gone bad, ideas gone good, perseverance, our 2-year long main event and I can’t wait to see what this year’s class will pull off.”
